Miramar College To Host Equity Summit Oct. 26-27

The Leading Equity, Anti-Racism & Diversity (LEAD) Office at Miramar College is proud to announce the return of the Dr. Constance Carroll Equity Summit Lecture Series, Oct. 26 and 27. The campus theme this year is Cultivating Community, Making the Invisible, Visible.

Join us as we celebrate community and engage in making the invisible, visible. Dr. Daisy Gonzales, Deputy Chancellor-California Community College Chancellor's Office, will provide the keynote address, followed by a student panel, and sessions led by Miramar College staff and faculty. The first event is community focused and will be held Oct. 26 from 4pm-6pm in room L-105. The October 27 event will be campus focused and also be held in L-105.

We’ll explore what it means to be culturally responsive through

  • Recruitment and Retention of Employees
  • Professional Development & the CREATE Program
  • Curriculum and Instruction
  • Servingness Practices for Student Success

The Equity Summit will build upon our conversations from Convocation and will serve as a steppingstone for our collective work during the 2024Planning Summit where we will explore the concept of servingness, and reimagine how we serve our students at Miramar College through applications of Dr. Gina Garcia’s book, Hispanic Serving Institutions in Practice - Defining Servingness at HSIs. We will have limited copies of the book available for colleagues who would like to begin exploring the concept of servingness in connection to the upcoming Book Read associated with the 2024 Planning Summit.
