Campus Events: College Hour

Graphic which reads, "San Diego Miramar College: College Hour. One hour, everyday just for students!" The graphic includes an image of people walking around campus in front of the Student Services Building.

There's something for everyone from workshops and presentations to engagement activities and more! Find new interests, meet new friends, and get all the tips for a successful academic year! Check the Campus Calendar for event details!

There's more to college than just going to class. During College Hour, minimal classes are scheduled allowing students to attend various events and participate in all sorts of activities hosted by Miramar College's Academic and Career Pathway (ACP) programs and various Student Services departments and support programs. Some events are curated to specific audiences like STEM students, students seeking a transfer path to a four-year university, or students looking to brush up their interviewing skills as they prepare to enter the workforce, for example. Most College Hour activities, though, are general-interest and geared toward all members of our diverse campus community to enjoy.

College Hour:
Monday – Friday, 12:30 – 1:30 pm*

*Some times may vary. Check the Campus Calendar for full event details. College Hour events take place during the regular 16-week fall and spring semesters. Check the academic calendar for district closures.

Adding Events to College Hour

Faculty and Staff

For college faculty and staff, Student Affairs may assist you in advertising your non-credit/non-instructional events, lectures, etc. Contact your dean for more information and to request they enter your events into the Campus Calendar.  College Hour marketing material is informed directly from the calendar.

Student Events and Club Meetings

Student organizations are encouraged to host events during College Hour, too! Your club's faculty advisor can request your events and meetings be added to the Campus Calendar by contacting the Office of Student Affairs.

College Hour Themes

During the regular 16-week fall and spring semesters, each week is given a theme.  These themes highlight goings on around campus, introduce cultural heritage remembrances and celebrations, and guide campus activites planning to align with the values and mission of the San Diego Miramar College, San Diego Community College District, and the California Community Colleges Chancellors Office. Managers, Faculty, and Staff are encouraged to participate in College Hour and to use the weekly themes as a jumping off point in their planning. These themes are developed each semester with input from various managers. Contact your dean if you have ideas to share!

College Hour Reporting

To ensure we are best serving our students it is important to accurately report engagement metrics for each College Hour event. Every week, you should use the College Hour Reporting Portal to submit attendance numbers at your engagement events—this applies to all non-instructional campus engagement opportunities, e.g., College Hour events, ACP open houses, student clubs, athletics, etc.

If you have more than one event in a given week, please enter them one at a time. You will see a link to submit another response after submitting your first event.  Visit bit.ly/ch-reporting from any device, or use the CHR Portal below.
