Minimum Transfer Admission Requirements


o  Complete a minimum of 60 CSU-transferable semester units


o  Complete General Education (GE) requirements


     - Oral communication,

     - Written communication,

     - Critical thinking, and

     - Mathematics

     with a “C” or higher in each.

Note: Students who complete the CSU GE pattern or the IGETC pattern will meet these requirements


o  Earn a minimum 2.0 cumulative CSU-transferable GPA. Applicants must meet this GPA at the time of application and maintain the GPA prior to transfer. (Note: a significantly higher GPA is typically required for admission to many CSU campuses.)


o  Be in good standing at the last college or university attended.

Recommended Transfer Coursework


o  General Education: Complete the CSU GE pattern or the IGETC pattern. The CSU GE pattern is usually the best choice unless you are also considering applying to a UC campus or private/out-of-state institution, in which case the IGETC pattern is usually the best choice.

How to Apply and Transfer


o  Submit the CSU Application for Admission at


For fall admission, apply October 1 to November 30 of the year prior to transfer.


For winter admission, apply June 1 to June 30 of the year prior to tranfer.


For spring admission, apply August 1 to August 31 of the year prior to transfer.


CSU East Bay often accepts late applications, second bachelor’s degree seekers, or lower division transfers. Visit for more information.


o  Complete General Education (GE) requirements in written communication, oral communication, critical thinking, and mathematics by the end of the previous spring term for fall admission, by the end of the previous summer term for winter admission, or by the end of the previous fall term for spring admission.

o  Follow instructions from the university for submitting official transcripts, enrollment confirmation and deposit, and other documents and information prior to transfer. Visit the admissions webpage for more information.

o  Select a major early in your community college education to ensure you complete the most appropriate transfer coursework.


o  See a counselor as soon as possible to develop a transfer education plan.
