Transfer to UC Santa Barbara

Minimum Transfer Admission Requirements

o   Complete a minimum of 60 UC-transferable semester units.

o   Complete the following 7-course pattern:

o        Two UC-transferable courses in English composition (UC-E)

o        One UC-transferable course in mathematics (UC-M)

o        Four UC-transferable courses in at least two of the following areas:
a) arts & humanities (UC-H)
b) behavioral & social sciences (UC-B)
c) biological & physical sciences (UC-S)

Note: students who complete the IGETC pattern will meet these requirements.

o   Earn a minimum 2.4 cumulative UC-transferable GPA. (Note: a significantly higher UC-transferable GPA is typically required for admission to UCSD).

o   Be in good standing at the last college or university attended.

Completing the minimum transfer admission requirements does not assure admission. Each UC campus evaluates all applications for transfer admission using a comprehensive review process. UCSB also uses additional selection criteria to evaluate transfer applicants

Recommended Transfer Coursework

o   General Education: Complete the IGETC pattern, unless you are applying to a major in the College of Creative Studies. See www.ccs.ucsb.edu/admissions/ for more information about admission criteria for the College of Creative Studies.

How to Apply & Transfer

o   Submit UC Application at www.universityofcalifornia.edu.

For fall admission, apply November 1 to 30 of the year prior to transfer.

For winter admission, apply July 1 to 31 of the year prior to transfer.

For spring admission, apply October 1 to 31 of the year prior to transfer.

UCSB may accept a very limited number of second baccalaureate degree seekers for some majors.

o   Complete 60 UC-transferable units and the 7-course pattern required for minimum transfer eligibility by the end of the spring term prior to fall transfer, or by the end of the fall term prior to winter or spring transfer.

o   Follow instructions from the university for submitting official transcripts, enrollment confirmation and deposit, and other documents and information prior to transfer. Visit the UCSB admissions webpage for more information.

 

Top Tips for Transfers

o   Select a major early in your community college career.

o   See a counselor as soon as possible to develop a transfer education plan.

o    Sign a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) agreement to get guaranteed university admission (most but not all students are eligible). Visit the UC TAG webpage for the application, eligibility criteria, and other information.
