Library/LRC Collections

Audio & Video | Circulating | Law | Periodicals | Reference | Reserve

BooksThe mission of the Library/LRC is to support the instructional needs of the students, faculty, and staff at Miramar College. Our collections are selected in light of our mission. Suggestions for materials should be forwarded to the librarian who selects materials for that subject area.

Audiotape & Videotape Collections

AV Collection The Audio/Video collection numbers over 1000 units. These are housed in the Technical Services area, and must be requested from the Circulation Desk. These materials do not leave the library, so TV/VCRs and tape recorders are available in the Student AV Area to watch or listen to the tapes.

Circulating Collection

Circulating Collection The circulating collection, located in the tall bookshelves, contains approximately 22,000 volumes. These are cataloged according to the Library of Congress classification scheme. The computerized catalog, SanD PAC, lists items held in our collection, as well as in the collections at Mesa College and City College.

Circulating items held by Miramar College Library/LRC may be borrowed for four weeks, no renewals, upon presentation of your current SDCCD student ID card. See the Check-Out Policies & Procedures page for more information.

If the SanD PAC indicates that the item you want is held by City or Mesa colleges, you may go to either of these campuses and use your current student ID card there to check out the material.  Or you can go to our Reference Desk and request the item be sent as an interlibrary loan through campus mail to Miramar. Requests can take up to three working days to process, so please plan ahead.

The librarians take great pains in keeping the collection up to date, weeding out older or little-used materials in order to make space for newer items. We welcome suggestions for additions to our collection.

Reserve Collection

Reserve Collection

Reserve is a dynamic collection, changing each semester depending on instructor requests. Materials in this collection could be supplemental class readings, photocopied articles, videos, sample tests, or even boxes of bones.

Flip through the three-ring binder atop the book drop to see if the materials assigned by your instructor have been put on reserve. You may also check the SanD PAC for a listing of items on reserve. You must have your current SDCCD student ID card to use Reserve materials.

Instructors who wish to put items on Reserve should fill out a form and turn it in to the staff at the Circulation Desk. Processing may take up to three working days until the materials are available for student use. Materials must be removed by the end of each Spring semester.
