How are Learning Communities classes different from other classes?
Learning Community classes are connected by a common theme or purpose. The professors teaching these classes work together to ensure that the classes share topics of study, field trips, and assignments. They are designed so that students learn to make connections between the two subjects while also developing closer relationships with fellow classmates and Professors.
Who may join a Learning Community?
As long as you meet the prerequisites for the classes involved in the Learning Community, you may enroll.
How do I know which Learning Community is right for me?
Learning Community classes cover General Education requirements (IGETC, CSU, UCSD TAG, and AA) and others cover prerequisites for General Education requirements. To determine which learning community is right for you, please visit a counselor in Room C-302. A counselor can assist you in determining your correct placement levels in English and Math, identifying prerequisites, and developing your class schedule.
How many units will I earn by participating in a Learning Community?
You will earn the normal amount of units for each class. For example, if you enroll in a Learning Community with two 3 unit classes, you will earn a total of 6 units.
What if I want to drop one of the classes in a Learning Community?
Dropping one class in the Learning Community will also result in a drop from the other class as well. Students participating in Learning Communities typically have better retention rates due to the supportive environment provided by Learning Communities.
