Nick Gehler

Head Coach Nick Gehler was born into a military family on November 5, 1970 in Taipei, Taiwan. After years of moving place to place, he graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in San Diego, California. Nick played collegiate basketball at Palomar College and the University of Northern Colorado.

Nick began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Palomar College, followed by five years as an Assistant Coach at Mira Costa College (1994-1999), mentoring under longtime head coach and future California Community College Hall-of-Famer, Clete Adelman. For the 1999-2000 season, Nick worked at the University of California, Irvine, under Head Coach Pat Douglass who previously led Cal State Bakersfield to three NCAA Division II titles.

In the fall of 2000, Nick accepted the Head Men’s Basketball coaching position at Imperial Valley College and spent five seasons rebuilding the men’s basketball program, developing and implementing summer basketball camps for youth through high school age boys and girls, and developing an Imperial County High School All-Star Basketball Game. In 2004, Nick was named the ‘Pacific Coast Conference Coach of the Year.’

Nick joined Miramar College as Athletics Director in 2005. This last spring, Miramar College was given the approval to start a men’s basketball program. Under Nick’s leadership, this 2006-2007 season will showcase the first-ever men’s basketball team in the history of the college.

Nick earned a bachelor’s degree in social science from California State University San Marcos and a master’s in health, physical education and recreation from Saint Mary’s College of California. Nick and wife Tara live in Rancho Bernardo and are the proud parents of daughter Bailey, 6 years old, and Charlie, 3 years old.

John joins the Miramar staff after three years as an assistant at Sierra College (Rocklin, CA). While at Sierra, John helped build the Wolverines into one of the top programs in the state. Under the guidance of Head Coach John Fusano, John was personally responsible for recruiting, developing, and moving on seven Sierra players to successful college programs.

A native of Northern California, Coach Egidio was a four-year varsity player for his Dad (Tom) at St. Patrick’s High School in Vallejo, CA. After high school, John continued his playing career at Napa Valley College under Head Coach Mike Girardi. When his playing days were over, Coach Egidio continued his education at the University of California Davis where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics with a minor in exercise science and a master’s degree in health, physical education, and recreation from St. Mary’s College (Moraga, CA). John currently resides in Carlsbad and is a part time physical education instructor at Miramar College.





Nick Booker
Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

Nick brings a wealth of playing experience to Miramar College — from high school basketball achievements with The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, where he was named to 1st Team All State teams for three consecutive years, to four years of NCAA success at Davidson College in North Carolina, where he played for Coach Bob McKillop, who recorded the most wins at Davidson and the Southern Conference.

While at Davidson, Nick traveled throughout northern Italy and played against and beat four Division 1 professional teams and earned a bachelor’s degree in history. Coaching experience includes Vista High School, where he served as assistant coach and assisted in player development, fundraising and academics. He recently attended the Adidas Phenom Camp and served as Camp Counselor of the Pangos All American Camp, a national event for top past and current All-American basketball athletes.

At Miramar, Assistant Coach Booker is involved in scouting operations, player recruitment, development and student-athlete progress, and fundraising. Off campus, Nick is Director/Coach of Gamepoint Basketball, an AAU team that travels locally, regionally and nationally. Nick, who resides in downtown San Diego, has five brothers and two sisters and is engaged to Jamila Ewell.
