Schedule tutoring appointments in-person by coming to The PLACe, or by calling our main telephone number (619) 388-7852 or (858) 536-7852.
Have your student identification number handy; the receptionist will ask you for it. We would be happy to provide you with a reminder slip with your appointment information.
- You may receive one appointment per day lasting up to one hour, for each subject you are enrolled in.
- Appointments can be scheduled up to one week in advance.
- You may schedule 2 appointments each week for each subject you are enrolled in.
Walk-in tutoring (tutoring without an appointment) may be available provided that a tutor does not have a scheduled appointment.
We want to help as many students as possible, so it is important to inform us if you will be late or cannot make it to your tutoring appointment.
If you are more that 15 minutes late, and have not called us, your appointment will be cancelled and given away if there is a student who wants walk-in tutoring.
"No Show" Policy
Student who do not show up for 2 or more appointments must meet with The PLACe's Coordinator and/or Instructional Lab Tech before they can schedule more tutoring appointmets. Further "no shows" may result in a suspension of tutoring privileges for the remainder of the semester.
Our tutors are carefully selected and specially trained to help you succeed in your studies. You may need just one or two sessions to get through a “rough spot” in your class or you may wish to have on-going sessions. In either case, you will receive the finest tutoring assistance that the San Diego Community College District has to offer.
PLACE tutors are selected because they are successful students within their disciplines. They take a tutor training class to learn the latest methods to help students with coursework. They learn the "hands-off" method of tutoring which encourages students to "learn how to learn," so that no matter which class they take, they can master the information.
Moreover, our tutors are trained to "understand what it means to not understand." Just because they’re very good at math or English, they still know what it means to struggle since they know that learning is essentially "overcoming confusion."
So if you have math anxiety or don't know how to begin a research paper or accounting is keeping you up at night or chemistry assignments are getting you down, our tutors can help. It’s what they love to do; help you.
