A learning community is two or more classes linked together by a common theme or purpose. Speech can be linked with English, Math with Personal Growth, or Reading with Writing. In a learning community, the same students enroll in the linked classes together. The instructors work together as a team to create common topics and assignments and to support student success.
Students who enroll in Learning Communities:
- Have higher GPAs
- Are more satisfied with their college experience
- Are more likely to form study groups and work with their classmates
- Are more likely to talk to their professors outside of class
- Feel more comfortable expressing their opinions in class
- Learn to approach topics from multiple perspectives
