Some ideas I have about education: learning for one’s own sake is good; learning in order to understand and communicate well with others is even better; learning for the love of knowledge for its own sake and in order to find out what it is to be human is the best. Regarding composition in particular, I believe that writing teaches us about ourselves as well as enabling us to communicate well with others. Finally, good literature fires our imaginations and feeds our spirits.

A bit of advice: keep being surprised by learning, and try taking some risks with your education. Once in a while take a course just because you want to, even if it doesn’t fill some requirement—open up your minds to an adventure or two.
