Epigenetics Workshop May 9, 2008. “An Introduction to Epigenetics” highlights the study of the transmission of gene expression patterns during development and in response to environmental factors.

Introduction to RNA interference (Jan 27, 2006)
A one-day workshop for incumbent workers and community college instructors. Covers the terminology, methodology, and applications of Interfering RNA.

3rd Annual Expanding Your Horizons Conference (April 2, 2005)
A science and technology conference for 6-10th grade girls from San Diego County. The girls attend a keynote address given by a successful woman in a science-related career and participate in three hands-on/minds-on workshops ranging in subject matter from Archeology to Zoology. Parents are also invited to attend sessions on college admissions, financial aid and community programs.

Virtual Shotgun DNA Sequencing Workshop (April 23, 2005) - A one-day workshop for all teachers interested in molecular biology and biotechnology. Teachers will be trained in classroom-friendly web-based DNA sequencing tools. Sponsored by the SCBC and CybertoryTM.

2nd Annual San Diego Career Counselor Day (March 7, 2005)

Hi-Tech Fair (February 23, 2005)
Designed to get high school students excited about math and science and encourage them in that direction as they pursue their education goals beyond high school. Sponsored by the San Diego Science Alliance, the San Diego County Office of Education, and San Diego City Schools.


DNA Microarray Workshop (Miramar College, Oct 23, 2004)
A one-day workshop designed to instruct teachers in the methodology of DNA array biology and its applications to gene expression, diagnostics, and drug discovery. A SCBC-sponsored event.

Molecular Biology Workshop (Miramar College, August 20-21, 2004)
The SCBC, along with Amgen Inc., Foundation for Pierce College and the Los Angeles/Orange County Biotechnology Center offered a free Molecular Biology Training Workshop for Teachers. This two-day workshop was designed for all teachers interested in molecular biology and biotechnology.

DACUM (Designing A CurriculUM) (Miramar College, December 2003)
Research Associates from San Diego biotech companies were asked to describe in detail their job duties and responsibilities. This detailed analysis was used to create a comprehensive description of what it means to be a Research Associate, including very specific skill-sets and job duties, at a San Diego biotech company. This is useful information for students, faculty and employers alike. A SCBC-sponsored event.
