As the sun set on April 16, 2014, more than 100 guests gathered in the second floor lounge of the magnificent new Student Services Center to enjoy international cuisine catered by Encore Catering and equally international entertainment – Zimbeat, provided by the Center for World Music. Emcee Lee Ann Kim, Emmy award-winning news journalist and current Executive Director of Pacific Arts Movement, guided the event’s activities, which included a robust silent auction, a short formal program, and scholarship recipient testimonial video, expertly produced by the Miramar College Audio Visual Department. Brief comments were made by Foundation President Marty Hight, Miramar College President Patricia Hsieh and student Trinh Nguyen. Major corporate donors and event sponsors were recognized with “big check” presentations – Wells Fargo Bank, Union Bank, AFT, Hawthorne Machinery. Other event sponsor recognitions included San Diego Chinese Language School, The Hom Family Fund, Tom Hawthorne. Income generated from the 2014 Invest in Success and corporate donations celebrated at the event totaled $43,032.
